The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects and recovered a large quantity of gunpowder concealed in bags of Garri, along with a locally-made pistol and live ammunition. The arrests were made during an intelligence-driven patrol by the Police-led Joint Security Force in the Aguata area.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police intercepted a suspect, whose name has been withheld, carrying three bags of Garri. Upon inspection, operatives discovered a hidden stash of gunpowder beneath the edible grains. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was en route to a criminal camp to deliver groceries and gunpowder, intended for producing improvised explosives. The suspect is currently in custody and assisting the police with further investigations to apprehend other gang members.
