President Bola Tinubu is set to swear in seven newly-appointed ministers on Monday, according to a statement issued Sunday by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will swear in the new seven ministers tomorrow Monday. The Ministers are Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda – Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction; Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi – Minister of Labour & Employment; Bianca Odinaka Odumegwu-Ojukwu – Minister of State Foreign Affairs,” Onanuga announced, as reported by Channels Television.
He continued, “Others are Dr. Jumoke Oduwole – Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment (Trade and Investment), Idi Mukhtar Maiha – Minister of Livestock Development; Yusuf Abdullahi Ata – Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development and Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad – Minister of State Education.”The ministers, whose appointments were confirmed by the Senate last week after a rigorous screening process in Abuja, join the cabinet following Tinubu’s decision to reshuffle his administration in response to increasing calls for change.
The President dismissed five ministers and brought in seven new appointees, with the aim of enhancing the effectiveness of his cabinet. Additionally, he re-assigned ten other ministers to different portfolios. This reshuffling sees Bianca Odinaka Odumegwu-Ojukwu stepping in as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, while Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda takes on the role of Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, succeeding suspended Betta Edu.
The latest appointees include Maigari Dingyadi, now leading the Labour and Employment Ministry, and Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, who assumes responsibility for the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment. The President also introduced a new portfolio, Minister of Livestock Development, led by Idi Mukhtar Maiha, as well as roles for Yusuf Ata and Dr. Suwaiba Ahmad as ministers of state for Housing and Urban Development and Education, respectively.
President Tinubu had originally appointed 48 ministers in August 2023. However, with the ongoing economic challenges, Tinubu aims for the reshuffle to revitalize his administration and address pressing national issues.
